Pod Sealers Video Report

Losses as a result of pod shatter either in the weeks following plant senescence or at the point of harvesting were once considered an unavoidable consequence of growing these crops, but the introduction of pod sealers has challenged conventional thinking

Pod Sealers

Pod sealers protect the yield of vulnerable crops, such as oilseed rape, peas and beans, by reducing the incidence of pod shatter.

How pod-sealants work

Applied to the pods, pod-sealants tack and protect the pod seam, reducing its natural tendency to split and allowing the pod to expand, contract and mature normally.

Get the timing right

BBCH80-82 is the time at which the pods are ‘green and bendy’. Seeds will be brown of half yellow/brown in the earliest ripening pods.

Nearly 20 years of extensive field trials has shown beyond doubt that this is the best application timing for pod-sealants in oilseed rape.

Water Volumes Long Lasting Protection

Water Volumes

Our pod-sealants do not have to cover the entirety of the target pods. Spray droplets bridge across the upper pod suture line. By effectively “stapling” the pod seam together the pod is prevented from opening.

For best results we advise using 100L/ha water for application of our pod-sealants at BBCH 80-82

Long Lasting Protection

Application of De Sangosse pod sealants will be effective for up to 12 weeks, safeguarding your crop through to harvest. Even if wet or windy weather delays combining, you can be sure your crop has the best possible protection.

Apply De Sangosse Pod-Sealants to Field Beans and Combining Peas

Applications to Field Beans

Our pod-sealants increase harvestable yields by sealing pods and preventing losses that occur on the combine header as a result of the knife’s mechanical action.

We recommend using 1.5L/ha in 150L/ha water to achieve the spay penetration through the crop canopy.

Make applications at BBCH85-89 (as soon as pods are swollen and before all have turned fully black)

Applications to Combining Peas

Combining pea crops can often be laid or dense. For this reason, water volume plays an important role in achieving coverage and penetration through the crop

Use 150 – 250L/ha water depending on crop situation to achieve adequate coverage of pea pods

Apply pod-sealants at BBCH 80-88 when the pods are ‘parchment colour’

Tank Washing Procedure

It is very important that our Pod-Sealants are washed out of the sprayer before they dry.

Immediately after application rinse the sprayer thoroughly with water and 0.1% Activator 90, and spray out to remove product from the inside of the spray tank, pump, spray lines and nozzles.

Do not leave unwashed tanks overnight before cleaning.

Where more of our Pod-Sealants are to be applied the next day, fill the spray tank with water, spray out sufficiently to flush pump, spray lines and nozzles, then stop sprayer and top up with water.
